  • Engineous Software Receives Patent for Directed Heuristic Search Technique

    MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 2000

Engineous Software Inc., provider of the award-winning integration, automation, and design improvement software iSIGHT, today announced the United States Patent and Trademark office has granted the company a patent for its Directed Heuristic Search (DHS) technique.

The patent protects an optimization technique that directs and tracks the design process.

DHS allows engineers to specify under what circumstances design parameters are applicable and to direct how the search for an optimum design sequences through potential solutions.

"DHS is unique because it allows engineers to use their knowledge of the design problem to steer the optimization process," said Siu Tong, Engineous chairman. "As a result, they can avoid potential design possibilities they know will not work for their particular design and reach an optimum solution more quickly."

The DHS technique is also tractable, creating a log of the sequence of design solutions that were evaluated during a particular design optimization search. By reviewing this log, users can see how the DHS process determined the final design. The user may also change the DHS rules to influence design search patterns.

"This patent recognizes Engineous' leading role in the design optimization field," said Dennis Nagy, Engineous CEO and president. "The DHS technique is just the next step in Engineous' continued commitment to creating design optimization software that enables businesses to decrease their time-to-market and save production costs."

The term of patent number 6,086,617 is approximately 17 years and will empower Engineous Software with the intellectual property rights to ensure this optimization technique is fully protected.
